Here’s exactly how I recommend using Second Skin (the healing film I’ll put on after your session). Follow these steps — it’ll make the healing smooth and stress-free.
The first night
Keep the film on overnight — sleep with it. It’s totally normal if you see some fluid (plasma or ink) collecting underneath. That’s your skin doing its thing.
The next morning
Gently remove the film in the shower or under warm running water. Don’t rip it off dry — the warm water helps loosen it so it comes off easily.
After you take it off:
• Wash your tattoo gently with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap.
• Pat it dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry.
Cleaning phase
If you notice the tattoo is still “weeping” — meaning there’s still clear fluid coming out — wash it again.
Keep gently washing and drying it until it stops weeping. For some people, it takes 5–10 minutes; for others, it can take up to an hour.
If you don’t have time in the morning to deal with it — totally fine. Leave the first film on until the evening after work, then do this whole cleaning process when you have time.
The second film
Once the tattoo has stopped weeping and is fully dry, apply the second piece of Second Skin I gave you. Smooth it carefully onto clean, dry skin. Make sure it’s sealed well around the edges.
You can keep this second film on for 3 to 5 days — that’s your healing phase.
It might still look a bit moist under the film for the first day or two, that’s normal. After that, it’ll start to “stick” more to the skin as it finishes healing underneath.
After removing the film
When you take off the second film, your skin might feel a bit tight or dry — that’s also normal.
Just start moisturizing it with any simple unscented lotion or body cream. It doesn’t matter what brand, as long as your skin doesn’t react to it. Avoid anything with perfume or heavy oils.
A few quick don’ts
• Don’t pick at the edges of the film.
• Don’t soak in water (baths, hot tubs, pools) while it’s on.
• Don’t try to “help it heal” with extra ointment — Second Skin does the work for you.
• If you see redness spreading or feel burning, peel it off and let me know.
That’s it!
Second Skin is basically a mini greenhouse for your tattoo — it locks in just enough moisture to help your skin rebuild fast and with less scabbing. Follow these steps, and your tattoo will heal clean, bright, and happy
If we’re not using Second Skin, I’ll wrap your fresh tattoo with a soft pad and put on some proper healing cream first.
Important: Try not to use Saran wrap or petroleum jelly — they’ll clog your pores and just make the healing take longer
Here’s how to take care of it after your session:
Small tattoo (not oozing)
1. Keep the pad on for about 3–4 hours — it protects your tattoo from dust and bacteria right after the session.
2. Wash your hands, then gently take the pad off.
3. Rinse your tattoo with warm water and mild, fragrance-free soap — no scrubbing.
4. Pat it dry with a clean paper towel or let it air dry.
5. Apply a thin layer of healing cream — gentle, unscented.
6. Keep it clean and lightly moisturized 2–3 times a day.
7. No soaking, no pools, no saunas for at least 2 weeks. Don’t pick at scabs or flakes.
Large tattoo (may be weeping/oozing)
1. Keep the pad on for around 5–6 hours, or even overnight if it’s still leaking a lot.
2. In the morning, take it off and wash the tattoo with warm water and gentle soap.
3. If it’s still weeping, that’s normal! Wash it again after 30–60 minutes — repeat as needed until the leaking stops. For big tattoos, this can take some time, so be patient.
4. If it’s still wet and needs more protection, I’ll give you an extra pad to wrap it for the next day. That’s fine.
5. After that next evening, stop re-wrapping — let the tattoo breathe and start healing naturally.
6. Apply a thin layer of healing cream after washing and patting dry.
7. Repeat gentle washes 2–3 times a day for the first couple of days, then keep it moisturized as needed.
8. You may feel tightness or itchiness — that’s normal. Keep moisturizing, don’t scratch.
🌿 Quick reminders for both small and large tattoos
• Wash your hands before touching your tattoo. • No Vaseline, Polysporin, or heavy ointments — they trap moisture. • Avoid sun exposure until fully healed. • Peeling is normal — don’t pick it.
